Commemorative Peal
One of the great poets of the First World War wrote: 'What passing bells for these who die....?' Well, the energy of Suffolk ringers will redress the need to recognize the men and women who suffered and died in those tragic years. A peal will be attempted at Hacheston church on Tuesday, October 2nd, commencing at 10am. A full peal is the highest tribute ringers can pay and this one will be dedicated to the men and women of Hacheston who served during the ‘Great War’ and the 22 Hacheston ‘boys’ who gave their lives for King and Country. October 2nd is significant as it was the date in 1918 on which William Hatcher, one of the 10 Hatcher brothers who served, was killed. The peal is being organised by Winston Girling from Stowmarket. The day is also very special for Winston as it will be his 600th peal and we feel very honoured he is choosing to ring it at Hacheston.
